Using Recycled Sidewalks to Build Concrete Stairs and Small Retaining Walls

As recycling becomes a bigger issue in today's society and dump fees continue to rise, anything we can do, to make a difference, we should. Using recycled sidewalks to build concrete stairs is an excellent way for recycling old sidewalks and driveways.

The first time I'd seen one, was outside a restaurant where I lived and they did a pretty good job, using the pieces of an old sidewalk, creatively. I never seen anything like this before and like most of us know, there's a first time for everything. building concrete stairs with recycled materials got me thinking about other things that we could build with recycled building products.

People aren't just using recycled concrete for stairways, they're using them for small retaining walls. Recycled concrete retaining walls and stairways can be built from small to large sections of broken sidewalks and driveways.

Simply position the broken pieces into decorative designs, until you have something that functions as a stairway. Start from the bottom and work your way up, until you've created a beautiful recycled concrete stairway.

If you're planning on building a retaining wall out of used concrete, simply stack these materials on top of each other, until you've created the retaining wall, you envisioned. I don't recommend building retaining walls higher than 24 inches with these types of materials.

I know I didn't go into a lot of detail, but you probably got the basic idea. Have fun and use your imagination while keeping safety in the back of your mind at all times.
