Cambodia: RCD. Project No.6. Day 6-7.

Todays video shows the completion of the structure going up over 2 days. Firstly they get the concrete pillars and the 3 main support walls of the house lined up. Unfortunately while constructing one of the walls they realised an error had been made and had to very frustratingly deconstruct all the beams and reassemble it correctly. These moments of aggravation do occur from time to time as the local way of working doesnt always involve the meticulous attention to detail that we are used to in the west. Though I feel what our local team may lack in scrupulous planning, they make up for in diligent inventiveness. An essential facet when working in an environment that lacks most modern tools and equipment. On the morning before the structure is raised there is a traditional ceremony to bless the land and to pray for a strong house that will serve as a good home to its owner. There are a total of 3 ceremonies that they believe in. One before any work starts, this one before the structure is raised, and a house opening ceremony when the home is finished. So in 2 days the house has gone from being a pile of lumber, to an actual structure. Now the hard work of fixing the roof and the floorboards begin.
